Are we there yet?

Written on the 29th of June 2010

Not quite sure what is worse the kid’s high pitch whining while you have your hands on the wheel or the dog farting in the car while the windows are up….both torture and the first one - well at least you can control with a little dose of fun!

It’s easy to silence the kid's with the latest gadget or planning your drive around sleep time, but just think of the fun you will be missing! Choose to have some family time while you hit the road this holiday season on your adventures.

Baby Play
(with the help or a passenger or older sibling)

  • Always have bubbles on hand to keep the little one amused (for the passengers to blow)
  • Play this little piggy with their toes
  • Peek a boo (blankies always come in handy to hide behind)
  • Itsy Bitsy Spider climbing up the leg (not the real spider just the song with actions!)

Preschool Play

  • Play ‘eye spy’ with colours – I spy something with my little eye that is green. (not boogies…the grass!)
  • Cloud games – make animal shapes out of the clouds in the sky
  • Nursery Rhymes ‘name that tune’ – hum your favourite nursery rhymes and get the kid’s to guess what song.
  • ‘Silly Sounds’ – every time you see a blue truck you have to say ding dong, moo moo for a cow and whatever else you choose to keep an eye out for.

Big Kid Fun

  • Scavenger Hunt - Give the kid’s a list of things too keep an eye out for on the trip like a farm, 5 billboards, horse and they try to complete the list.
  • Alphabet Game – start with the letter A and you have to find a letter ‘a’ in a sign, advertisement or on a licence plate and you move through the alphabet. First one to Z wins!
  • Rock'n out to your favorite tunes - call it car karaoke!
