New Year - New things - New Ways to Organize

Written on the 12th of January 2010

It’s a new year and you WILL stay organized this year! As CEO of the household and family social director (among so many other things) it is up to you and here are some great tools in starting the year out right.

There is something strangely exciting about filling out the new calendar, using a neat pen and writing in your absolute best writing (well at least for January!). Well, check out this very cool family planner that will help ALL of you stay organized and on time.

Available online at Mooo this family calendar has a space for all the family members and they actually personalise it for you, in colour, all spiral bound and ready to hang. In 5 different styles to choose from your tribe is sure not to miss an event this year.

Then comes organizing the house…where to start? Use the New Year as motivation and start in one corner and work your way through the house giving everything a home and out with the old. Only take on a job you have time for, start with a drawer, a cupboard or if you have all afternoon the closet.

Ask yourself, have you used it in the last year? Does it make you feel good? Are you emotionally attached? These are the questions to ask as you go through your belongings and if it’s a maybe, then put it in the ‘trash’ pile*. Be strong!

To help get the job done, check out Fiona Kate, who inspires, simple yet stylish organization. From paper boxes to store away toys, or art folders for those many special works of art (a la kiddie), stickers to label and chalk boards for daily reminders. We love the string bags that are only a few dollars and will help keep the kids organized for their outdoor play.

A couple more stops to help organize your year are both out of Sweden (wouldn’t you love to see the homes there!) Ikea, for just about everything for the house and  Kikki K for your stationary needs. Once you have visited these two stylish shops you should have the house in tip top shape and ready for another year of simplifying the cyclone that come with raising kids!

*make sure you think of charities before putting anything in the trash. Give to the less fortunate or even friends (thanks Ali) as your trash is another person’s treasure.
