Hey Bro as the Kiwi’s say...we are celebrating our neighbour’s across the ditch this weekend with Waitangi Day! There are a couple events on the Coast that will see how they celebrate all things New Zealand’ish.  If you are a book lover or the kids are book worms do not miss your chance to pick up cheap preloved books at the Lifeline book fair. Have fun this week!
 


Family Surf and Beach Fun
Saturday 6 February from 8am to 9:30am – Lifeguard Tower 40, Southport SLSC, Macarthur Pde, Main Beach
Surf awareness is on offer and your chance to learn everything you wanted to know about the surf, rips and how to stay safe at the beach. You can also learn how to ride a wave! No experience necessary and bring your body board if you have one. Waitangi Day
Saturday 6 February from 9am to 9pm – Parklands Showgrounds Cnr Smith Street and Parklands Drive, Southport
A day to celebrate all things Kiwi! Take the kids down to immerse them in Kiwi culture at this family day picnic. There will be games, rides, an animal farm, heaps of great musical entertainment, traditional Maori cultural performances and stalls selling Kiwi fav’s. Lifeline Fiction Fair
Saturday 6 February and Sunday 7 February from 8am to 5pm daily - Parklands Showgrounds Cnr Smith Street and Parklands Drive, Southport

Beach Care – Palm Beach
Saturday 6 February from 9am to 11am – 27th Ave, Palm Beach

Coastal Grind BMX
Saturday 6 February from 10am to 1pm – Discovery Park, Discovery Drive, Helensvale

Surfing
Saturdays from 8am at Surfers Paradise – Corner of Hanlan Street and the Esplanade, Surfers Paradise
Sundays in Burleigh – Justins Park, in front of Burleigh Heads SLSC
Fab waves, warm waters and friendly instructors are on hand to give you the help in experiencing surfing yourself. Beginner lessons for all ages and abilities. Waitangi Day & Pacific Islands Festival
Sunday 7 February from 10am to 5:30pm - Carrara Sports Fields Broadbeach Nerang Road, Carrara
A day of entertainment by Maori and Polynesian performers and cultural groups. Traditional hangi and ethnic foods and drink, carnival rides for the kids including an animal farm, balloon artist and face painters. Also sign on for local rugby clubs as this event is in support of local rugby and youth development and the tsunami relief efforts in the Pacific Islands. Juggle Jungle
Sunday 7 February from 10am to 1pm – Laguna Park, Laguna Ave, Palm Beach
Who’s got the rhythm of the drums? Take the kids down to try their hand at juggling, hula hoops, tribal drumming and line walking – great ways to encourage coordination, not to mention have some fun too! The February Village Markets
Sunday 7 February from 8am to 1pm - Burleigh Heads State School Lower Gold Coast Highway
These markets are fairly new to the Gold Coast and exhibit the quirky style of some of the best up and coming local designers, artists and vintage collections. Check out what this month has to offer. Thunder Cat Event
Sunday 7 February from 8am – Phillip Park, The Spit, Main Beach
If you’re out and about on the Broadwater this weekend check out the fast flying thunder cats as they race about. Perhaps a great spot to picnic and take in the boating action.

 


Let’s Live and Give Life Annual Memorial Skate Day
Sunday 7 February from 11am to 2pm - Gold Coast North Youth Centre, Oxley Drive, Runaway Bay.
There will be a skate competition in memory of Jye Strong and Nathan Sprecak who were tragically killed along a footpath in February 2008. Come celebrate the life and passion for skating that these local boys had and help raise awareness for not for profit organizations like Queensland Donate, Qld Homicide Victims Support Group and support this local family and friends.
